The Bronx LGBT Expo was created by the late Jose Ramon in 2019. Jose was diagnosed with PTSD and Depression. He passed away on March 14, 2021, a year after being diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis ) or AKA (Lou Gehrig's Disease). ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progression degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually lead to death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. Jose’s battle with ALS ended on March 14, 2021 @4:57 PM on his one-year wedding anniversary. Jose’s journey and contribution to the community will never be forgotten or dismissed. Despite his battle with ALS, mental health, and medical issues, he never once stop thinking about the community. His dream was to bring awareness about issues that impact our community issues that are often cited as the invisible disorders.
